5 Games to Watch During Week 6

  1. Chelsea vs. Arsenal

TV – Saturday, September 19th at 7:45 am EST on NBCSN

The Jose Mourinho vs. Arsene Wenger battle resumes this weekend when Arsenal travel across London to face Chelsea.  Chelsea are coming off a win in the Champions League, where as Arsenal suffered a shocking defeat.  Mourinho needs to carry this momentum over, as a loss this weekend could be devastating for him and the club.  Arsene Wenger has never beaten Jose Mourinho in a competitive match, but did defeat him in the most recent Community Shield match.  Pedro and Willian look set to miss out on the match, but Terry, Matic, and Costa should all return.  The big question for Chelsea is Baba Rahman or Ivanovic.  Ramsey, Bellerin, Mertesacker, and Coquelin should all start.  Cech will make his return to the Bridge after his summer move to Arsenal.

My Pick – This is just what Jose needs.  Look for Chelsea to park the bus and get the goal on the counter.  It won’t work out, as Walcott will have too much pace. 1-1 draw with goals from Walcott and Costa.

James’ Pick – Chelsea 2 Arsenal 2 with goals by Costa, Hazard, Sanchez, Walcott

  1. Dortmund vs. Leverkusen

TV – Sunday, September 20th  at 10:30 am EST on Fox Sports 2

The hottest team in Germany takes to the field Sunday as Borussia Dortmund has been flying, scoring 15 goals in their first four games but now they face a strong test.  Leverkusen has won on their last two trips to Dortmund and will look to make it three in a row.  Reus is still a doubt with his broken toe.  Chicharito could start for Leverkusen.  How will the Europa League affect Dortmund?  We will see this weekend.

My Pick – Dortmund 3 – Leverkusen 2 in a great match.  Goals from Aubameyang and Mkhitaryan (2) for Dortmund and Calhanoglu and Chicharito for Leverkusen.

James’ Pick – Borussia Dortmund 3 Leverkusen 1 with goals by Aubameyann(2), Mkhitaryan, Hernandez

  1. Napoli vs. Lazio

TV – Sunday, September 20th at 2:45 pm EST on beIN Sports Connect

Both of these teams would like a reset to the season.  Both were being tipped to challenge for the Champions League places but have struggles.  Napoli has managed just 2 draws so far this campaign. Lazio have won two of their three games and are just three points back in the league.  A win for them could propel them up the table.  Look for it to be a high scoring affair with both teams struggling defensively.

My Pick – Napoli will get their first win of the season 3-2 over Lazio.  Goals from Higuain, Insigne, and Hamsik for Napoli and Anderson and Matri to score for Lazio.

James’ Pick – Napoli 2 Lazio 1 with goals by Higuain, Callejon, Candreva

  1. Sevilla vs. Celta de Vigo

TV – Sunday, September 20th at 6:00 am EST on beIN Sports Connect

The surprise of the season so far has to be Celta Vigo.  They have started well as they are unbeaten in the league.  Sevilla has been okay but they have not won a game yet in the league. They just got a huge win in the Champions League.  Sevilla are a really strong home side, as they only lost once at home last year.  Look for the Sanchez Pizjuan to be rocking on Sunday.  Celta Vigo had the chance to go top of the league last week but watched a 3-1 lead evaporate.

My Pick – I think this is the week that Sevilla gets there first win of the season.  I am going for Sevilla 2 – Celta 1 with goals from Konoplyanka, Llorente, and Nolito.

James’ Pick – Sevilla 3 Celta de Vigo 1 with goals by Gamiero, Banega, Reyes, Orellana

  1. Stade de Reims vs. PSG

TV – Saturday, September 19th at 10:30 am EST on beIN Sports

The French champions have started well again this season and they look set to repeat as champions.  This weekend they travel to Reims to face off with Stade de Reims.  Reims currently sits in third place and are three points behind the Paris side.  Reims record signing Jaba Kankava could start this weekend.  Hopefully Reims will not be scared and will go for the win at home.  PSG are looking to create more after a disappointing draw with Bordeaux.  PSG is now 100% healthy and will need their squad with five different competitions in the next two weeks.

My Picks – PSG will get back to their winning ways this weekend with a 2-1 win in Reims.  Goals from Di Maria, Cavani, and Devaux.

James’ Pick – PSG 3 Stade de Reims 0 with goals by Cavani(2), Lavezzi

Champions League Results

James’ Result – Juventus 2 – Manchester City 0

My Result – Dinamo Zagreb 2 – Arsenal 1.  In what might have been the shock of the weekend, Arsenal traveled to Croatia and would easily come away with three points.  They did not, as the Croatian side came with a strong game plan and went ahead in the first half.  They added a second in the second half before Walcott got a consolation goal.
